The State of Montana Department of Corrections is on high alert after Hunter J. Peffers, a 26-year-old inmate at the Great Falls Pre-Release Center, failed to return as scheduled on Sunday, July 14, 2024.

Peffers, who was serving time for criminal mischief, was last accounted for at 11:00 a.m. when he did not show up at the center. Described as a six-foot-tall, 200-pound Caucasian man with black hair and brown eyes, Peffers was last seen dressed in a black polo shirt and tan slacks, and he was carrying a walking stick.

Authorities are intensively searching for Peffers and have urged the public to remain vigilant. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to contact local law enforcement immediately.

The escape has prompted a review of security protocols at the Great Falls Pre-Release Center. Officials are determined to recapture Peffers swiftly and ensure the safety of the community. Updates on the search will be provided as new information becomes available.
