The Little Shell Tribal Council has recently worked with the Chicago Field Museum of Natural History to facilitate the repatriation of the remains of a Little Shell child. Today, the Little Shell Tribe is honored to welcome this ancestor back home and will hold a traditional reburial ceremony to ensure the child is properly laid to rest. Although it is a somber occasion, the Tribal Council is deeply grateful for the opportunity to honor the child’s spirit with a dignified, traditional burial.

Members of the Little Shell Tribe are invited to participate in ceremonies and visit with the child at the Little Shell Tribal Elder Center, located at 1529 Stuckey Road, Great Falls, MT. Visitation and ceremonies will be held from 12:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The reburial ceremony is scheduled to take place at the First People Buffalo Jump State Park, located at 342 Ulm-Vaughn Road, Ulm, MT 59485. Those wishing to attend the reburial should arrive at the visitor center by 1:30 pm to be escorted to the burial site.

The Little Shell Tribal Council remains steadfast in its commitment to the protection and repatriation of ancestral remains. The respectful treatment of these remains is not only a matter of cultural sensitivity but also holds profound spiritual significance. The Tribal Council will continue its efforts to ensure that our ancestors are honored and respected through ongoing repatriation and proper burial practices.
